She said 'Yes'

I love engagement stories.  I love asking people about their 'proposal' stories.  It's just such a lovely, amazing, personal thing.  Some are simple declarations, some are planned and primed, some are casually spoken but with words that will last a lifetime.

Well, you can imagine how excited I was when I was asked to create a ring to mark such an important occasion.  The ring combined everything that was important to this couple and made it visible in metal and stone.

The story goes something like this....

Imagine a steep incline, rising up above the land below, to a high point.  In amongst the wilder air, surrounded by huge chunks of land and rock and wide expanses of sky he asked her to marry him.  And she said 'yes'.

Written into this gold surface is their story.  The line is the path that the couple took.  The diamond marks the point where the question was asked.  The inside is marked with the latitude and longitude of the place and the date.  It is beautiful and unique.  It is minimal and rooted in the landscape that was the backdrop to the unfolding question and answer.  The diamond is understated but brilliant and sparkling; winking from within the surface.

I think Paul Newcombe's photograph on flickr captures the magic of this place (click here for his page).  A good place to ask a life altering question, wouldn't you agree?

I'll be singing along to this Mumford and Son song from their 'The Wedding Band' album.  A good foot stomping tune that should see us all into the weekend.
