A little bit of sparkle to brighten your Monday.

Some sparkely things I have collected with my magpie eyes as I fly through the internet.  Click on 'source' at the bottom of each image to see original location of each picture.

Here is to a week full of gleam, glimmer and a bit of glamour!

We All Live In A Yellow Submarine - the sequel (again)

Fresh off the bench today.  By now, it should be sitting on the proud owner's finger, off on its maiden voyage.  May it dive to 20,000 leagues and beyond!

Hybrid Handmade in Etsy Treasuries

I loved this quirky treasury by Galerie Noire including my ever popular stripy pebble ring.  Click here to see it in all its fully clickable majesticness (well, until it falls off the end of 'Planet Etsy').

Elsewhere, my Perfectly Pretty and Pure earrings were featured in this beautiful symphony of grey and neutral tones by AbsoluteQueen.

I did some making of a different kind today.  I'm not a big blast in the kitchen but I must admit I had some fun today.  I organised a little get together with some family and friends who are holidaying here in France.  It has been raining fairly solidly since they arrived so I thought a little soirée and these cakes might be fun.

I think they did the trick!

A Fleeting Fragment From My Day

A little restful moment as the sun began to set.  A creeping darkness begins to take over the house and two small boys draw and 'write' together.  Little heads bent with concentration.  Working in the fading light.  I stopped from my business and just watched and took pictures so I could remember the moment.

London Fashion Week - Ada Zanditon (featuring shoes by Julian Hakes)

Elsewhere in the Hybrid Handmade House there has been much work going on getting these shoes ready for London Fashion Week.  Julian (my husband for those of new to this little on-line sketchbook) has been busy 'reinventing the wheel' as far as the shoe world is concerned.  With each refinement these shoes are just getting more and more beautiful.

Here are some behind the scenes photos taken just before the 'runway' presentation on Friday.

Ada opted to present her stunning collection in this beautifully shot film (by Andrew and William Ho) and static mannequins to allow all the buyers and press people to get really close to the intricately constructed garments.

Congratulations to Ada.  I hope she is enjoying a few days rest before dreaming up new gorgeousness for Spring Summer 2012!

Spring Field Collection

I have made these necklaces for women who like to kick off their shoes and feel the grass between their toes, for women who are country girls at heart, who are sure of thier roots and wear their hearts on their sleeves.

Spring Field Collection, Cari-Jane Hakes 2011

"I was inspired by the silhouette of grasses and flowers against the sky that I see when I walk along the coast here in France. I have frozen the sway of their dance in the wind in slate blue and snowy white enamel. I then carefully made 25 tiny sterling silver rivets and slowly attached 13 silver leaves that are forged so they look like they are lifting slightly, as if caught in the breeze. I have used leaf skeletons to imprint the silver and have then patinated the surface to bring out this amazing texture."

In the  Etsy hybridhandmade shop now.

I'm Pink therefore I am!

I'm coming back later today with my completed 'Spring Field' necklaces but until then...I couldn't resist a splash of pink.  Seeing as it has been Valentines week and all.  Well, that's my excuse.

I am going to float off on a cloud of virtual 'pink' into my workshop to create beautiful things for you all.
A plus tard mes amis!

Oh, How Pinteresting!

Well, after a very busy little day I am sitting down with a cup of tea and a crème brûlée.  I did the 'brûlée' bit with my soldering torch - this is always a neat trick when we have guests round.  No neat tiny cook's blow torches here!  It has the air of the old adage 'a sledgehammer to crack a nut' but it works.  I have to say the combination of tea and crème brûlée must be one the most perfect 'Franco Anglais' agreements.

I have just finished a lovely private commission.  As I write, it is whizzing through northern France, on its way to my engraving man in London.  It is a secret surprise for a special Scottish couple celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary in March.  Pretty inspiring don't you think?

Here is some more inspiration of the more pictorial type.  Pretty things that I have picked up on my armchair travels through the wonderful world wide web.  Enjoy mes amis.

McEtsy Treasury

I was delighted to be accepted into the McEtsy team over on Etsy.  This monochromatic treasury features the work of Etsy sellers who are also part of this team.  So many beautiful creations and so much talent!  You can see this treasury in all its clickable brilliance here (until it falls off the edge of the Etsy Treasury list).

A little extra something.

I couldn't resist.  I love process.  I love to see how people do their 'stuff'.  Especially when it is expertly edited and beautifully shot.  I hope you like it too.

He who hesitates...

is lost.  To be honest, I have been a bit 'lost' of late.  I am reluctant to start on the epic 'oyster' piece.  I know it will be one of those pieces that will take a week to make, handmade chain and all.  I battle a little bit with the knowledge that these creations are not best suited to Etsy.

In the meantime, here is a selection of the projects currently on my work bench.

Ingredients: Prussian blue enamel and leaf skeleton impressed sterling silver.

Rather unsurprisingly, what I snagged in my 'net' perfectly reflected these little enameled fragments.

Friday mémoire (or, here is one I made earlier)

This time, 15 years ago, you would probably have found me carefully preparing 125 squares, cut carefully from my magazine stash, each 5cm by 5cm.  I was making a Valentine's card for my boyfriend of 4 months.  We had started going out on the 14th October 1995.  Each square represented a day in our fledgling relationship.

2 years, 10 months and 26 days later we got married.
